Lot 6059
Star Wars Return of the Jedi B-Wing 1:24 Scale. This is one of the world’s first two B-Wings ever made in 1/24 scale. The idea of an upscaled B-Wing in 1/24 began in 2005 with famed artist Robert Burns. The filming studio model that now resides in the Lucasfilm Archives is smaller in 1/35 scale, and yet, the remaining Fighter-type filming models for the Star Wars Saga were mostly made in 1/24 scale. Robert decided it would be a good idea to have the B-Wing in scale with that of the X-Wing, the Y-Wing, the TIE Fighters, and more. Robert contacted legendary artist Alfred Wong to create part patterns for a B-Wing in the large 1/24 scale. Kurt Kuhn heard that Robert asked Alfred to make these patterns, and being that Kurt’s displayed Collection of X-Wings and Y-Wings were in 1/24 scale, Kurt then requested the first two of them from Robert. Artist Jeff Broz came into the picture at that time, with Robert transferring the project ownership to him. Jeff would then finish out the project with Alfred Wong, and the first two 1/24 B-Wing parts ever made were then given to Kurt Kuhn. At that time, Kurt had established a large model shop located in Oregon, USA that had a few amazing artists involved. One of those artists was R.L. Bleecker. Kurt tasked Bleecker with the build and paint up of these two huge B-Wings. Bleecker was close to retiring from the art form at that time and only was able to install the B-Wing mounting system in each. Kurt then re-tasked the two B-Wings to famed artist Marc Elkins, who completed them both in 2011,... four years later from the date the project began. As one can see with this piece, It was worth the wait. One went with Kurt, and the other was given to Marc by Kurt for his excellent work on them both. In 2013, Kurt decided to move to the even larger 1/18 scale. The 1/24 B-Wing that was in Kurts possession then went to a large Collection in Hong Kong. The other 1/24 B-Wing was still with Marc Elkins. Just months later, Kurt made the decision to display both the 1/24 and 1/18 scale models from the Star Wars Saga, and it was at that time Kurt reacquired the 1/24 B-Wing in Marc Elkins Collection. It is the piece you see in this auction. The piece was seen by thousands of people in person, and tens of millions of people online. It seemed to grab the attention it well deserved. Over the years, and movement to different locations, the piece needed to be freshened up, and that is when legendary artist Dan Grumeretz did his magic. Having worked on several Star Wars models over a few decades, Dan knew exactly how to treat this fine piece, and also knew what Kurt Kuhn expected in its quality. The result is what is up for auction at this time,..which is one of the first two 1/24 B-Wings ever made. This piece speaks loudly in its aggressive look. Wings opened or shut, this piece looks amazing. The paint replicates the Lucasfilm Archives 1/35 scale B-Wing with the large orange-red spots on its hull and wings. The wings are positionable to be opened or shut. When shut, they are magnetized to the hull for a tight wing look it should have. The cockpit freely rotates as it should when this fighter design is flying around obstacles and space debris. Its Pilot is positioned that he is looking slighting to his left, for a more realistic feel about this static piece. The weathering is phenomenal, capturing exactly the Star Wars look and feel. Its details are beautiful, with panels that have rivets, and conduit upon its hull and wings. This beautiful B-Wing can be examined up close as well as from afar. There are two mounting points for a 1/4-20 threaded mount, which in this case is a fully adjustable Panavise mount that is attached to the base. This piece is ready to be seen, and will go well in any Collection. Keywords: Collectible; Ref: BD1831
