Description:

Star Trek The Motion Picture Klingon K'Tinga Battlecruiser 1:350 Scale. This 1/350 scale Klingon K’Tinga is a scaled replica of the studio model used in 1979’s Star Trek: The Motion Picture. It is the WORLD’S FIRST Klingon K’Tinga ever made in 1/350 scale. Before it was created, there was only a single model offered by AMT/Ertl of the K’Tinga design that was much smaller. Being more complex than many would believe, it took legendary artist Richard Long a year to get the shape to be correct. The K’Tinga is a progressive update to the original Klingon D7 Battlecruiser seen in the 1966 series. In the mid 1970’s, with the popularity of Star Trek being well known, CBS began a new venture with a Series called Star Trek: Phase 2. Sets were made, props and models were made, or modified, scripts were approved, and even scenes were filmed. With the success of 1977’s Star Wars being so vast, CBS/Paramount knew it had to take Star Trek to the big screen. They did so with Star Trek: The Motion Picture. As I stated, models had been created for Phase 2. For instance, the Klingon Battlecruiser was made a bit larger, and it had armored panels painted on its hull. For Star Trek: The Motion Picture, most everything was changed, though still keeping some of what was for Phase 2. The Klingon Battlecruiser was completely remade, keeping the basic shape, though making it different enough that it is apparent when shown side by side with an original series Battlecruiser. One thing that was done was to make the model much larger, making it 4 feet in length, nearly twice the size of the original filming miniature from 1966. Armor paneling and heavy details were also physically added, creating a more ominous look to the already fantastic Matt Jefferies original design. It would now be called a Klingon K’Tinga Class Battlecruiser. With this piece offered here today being the WORLD’s FIRST 1/350 scale K’Tinga, artist Richard Long matched the heavy details wonderfully, and finished it beautifully in the color we thought the model to be from looking at the studio model photos of the 1979 filming model. There are different tones of color added to enhance the paneling effect already physically on the model. Fiber optic lighting is produced with LED support throughout the head and main body. The spotlights for the painted insignia on the top and bottom of the model are present, just like the studio model. The intake baffle on the top of the model glows red, and the main torpedo launcher also glows as if ready to fire. The bridge window ominously glows red, just as we saw in the movie. The main Klingon insignia on its belly is amazing in its exact coloring. The entire model sits upon a strong metal tube that the power source runs through to the lighting in its interior. The metal tube is attached to a large black wooden base that has a toggle switch on its side that turns the LED/Fiber Optic lighting on and off. It is beautiful, and again... The WORLD’s FIRST. Add to that the two world-class artists involved being Richard Long and Dan Grumeretz, and you have yourself a very valuable piece. It is to scale with any 1/350 Model, including Star Trek’s USS Enterprise, the Enterprise NX-01, the 1/350 S.S. Botany Bay, the 1/350 Romulan Bird of Prey, and the 1/ 350 THREE Birds of Prey display which are all separately being offered in the Auction. Before any kit had been created, this was the very first 1/350 Klingon K’Tinga in the world. Being the first, it is the only one in the world, and it is impressive to view.
