His jewelry was considered ground breaking because prior to this time, Indian Jewelry was very stereotypical. The pioneering work of Charles Loloma brought positive attention from mainstream society to Indian art and jewelry and especially contemporary Indian art and jewelry. Most importantly Charles gave Indian artists the freedom to create, based on their vision. His important exhibitions include solo exhibitions at the Heard Museum in Phoenix, Arizona, and in Paris, France. He has received numerous awards including the Arizona Indian Living Treasures award and was named a Fellow of the American Crafts Council. He has been appointed to many boards including the First Convocation of American Indian Scholars, the Arizona Commission on the Arts, and the Advisory Board of American Indian Arts magazine.
