Description:

Factory Engraved Marlin Model 1893 Take-Down .32-40 WCF Lever Action Rifle with Cody Letter. This Engraved Marlin Takedown Model 1893 has a 26” inch octagon barrel with a full-length magazine tube. The front sight is a German-silver, Rocky Mountain blade that is paired with an elevator-adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight. In addition, a Marlin-Hepburn, pivoting-peep sight has been mounted on the back of the receiver. The nomenclature of the factory engraving is as follows: Pattern #1 w/ Buck Deer on the Left Side & Scroll Engraved on the Balance of the Receiver and Bolt Body. The barrel has the two-line Marlin address and caliber marking roll-stamped on the top flat. The top of the receiver is marked “Marlin Safety” indicating Marlins’ revolutionary “solid top” receiver that side-ejects spent shells as opposed to Winchester’s top shell ejection. The upper tang shows the model number and the serial number can be found on the bottom of the receiver. The barrel and magazine tube are blued steel and the forearm cap, receiver, hammer, loading lever and crescent-shaped butt-plate are color-case hardened. The loading gate is Niter blue. The bordered and checkered, “S” pistol-grip buttstock and the checkered forearm are made of a very nice tight-grained Walnut. Caliber/ Gauge: .32-40 WCF; Serial Number: 312527 Working Order: Firearm has not been tested; Background Check: Required; Keywords: Firearms, Guns; Ref: BD1040

  • Circa: 1905
  • Condition: FINE - VERY FINE. The over-all condition of this Factory engraved Marlin is excellent showing at least 95%+ of the original bluing that is turning to a beautiful light-brown patina. The color-case hardened receiver, loading lever and butt-plate have matured to a very even silvery appearance that is displaying very vivid case-colors in numerous protected areas. The engraved areas exhibit remnants of a gold wash applied after the engraving was accomplished. The 80% bore is mostly-shiny with very good to fine rifling. The action is smooth, positive and sound. All screw heads are in excellent condition. The wood stocks are in excellent condition with very minor handling marks. The checkering, although not razor sharp, is very well defined. This is an extraordinary well-executed example of an extremely rare, engraved and factory lettered Marlin.
