Description:

Unbelievable! Only 1 Ever Made! Antique Winchester Model 1876 Deluxe - .50-95 Express Lever Action Rifle. This rifle is the only ONE in the World Deluxe rifle that is chambered in the powerful .50-95 cartridge with an OCTAGON BARREL. It was most likely manufactured in 1898. Factory records are sketchy on the exact date of manufacture. The rifle sports a 22" octagon barrel. This Model was special order only with many features and options available at an extra cost. The Winchester 1876 models that were produced with a 22" barrel were the Express Rifle and the Carbine. However, both only wore a ROUND barrel. This rifle does not appear to have a "cut-down" barrel. Has a ladder rear sight and a Beech style front sight. Dust cover rail is integral to the receiver. Case colored forearm cap, receiver, hammer, trigger, lever, and butt-plate. Deluxe wood with a checkered forearm and pistol grip. We firmly believe that this rifle is the one listed in the "PROVENANCE" section found below. Serial Number: 64286; Background Check: Not Required Antique; Keywords: Firearms, Gun Ref: BD1040

    Provenance:
  • A post on the WINCHESTER ARMS COLLECTORS ASSN. forum in 2011 states the following: "The .50-95 was introduced to the public on 1 May 1879. It was meant to mimic the English "Express" cartridges of the time, and had a hollow-point bullet of 300 grains that was filled with a copper cup and propelled by 95 grains of powder. The original MV of 1641 FPS was quite high for the time. Interestingly enough, the last Model 1876, to be manufactured, was a .50-95 rifle. It was a "Special Order" gun that was delivered to the warehouse on 5 December 1898 and was shipped with many extra features on 18 March 1899. Sadly, the records do not indicate its' destination". Includes Cody Letter.
