The second floor was the principal exhibit space where on exhibition was the works of the Russian-born artist Ilya Bolotowsky, the South Dakota-born artist Gerald Johnson and the Czechoslovak-born sculptor and cabinetmaker Ladislav Czernek. The exhibition took place between October 14 - November 5, 2000. Gerald played a dynamic role in the Brooklyn art scene from the late 1960s through the late 1980s. After graduating from Pittsburgh State, he established a studio on Green Street and became right-hand to Steve Poleskie at the famed Chiron Press in 1967. There he formed creative relationships many of the artists; Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Thomas Wesselman, Victor Vasarely, Richard Anuszkiewicz, etc. In 1970, through his work at Chiron, he started printing Tondos and Diamonds for Ilya Bolotowsky. The conversations between the two about art and transcendence began a life-long friendship. Johnson became Ilya’s studio assistant and chief creative collaborator that same year. A full-scale exhibition of the works of Ilya Bolotowsky and Gerald Johnson, side by side, was mounted at the Williamsburg Art & Historical Center in Brooklyn. Bolotowky’s influence is apparent when viewing the works together.
