Circa 1901 Marlin Model 1893 Lever Action .38-55 Win Rifle. The top flat of the barrel is marked "MARLIN FIRE-ARMS CO., NEW-HAVEN, CT. U.S.A. / PATENTED OCT. 11, 1887, APRIL 2, 1889. AUGUST 1, 1893" and "38-55". The top of the receiver is marked "MARLIN SAFETY" and the upper tang is marked "MODEL 1893". "SPECIAL SMOKELESS STEEL" roll-stamped on the left side of the barrel below the rear sight. The front sight is marked "LYMAN'S / PAT OCT 6, 85". The rear sporting type rear sight is marked "MARBLES GLADSTONE MICH. USA". The Model 1893 rifle was the first Marlin lever-action rifle manufactured for smokeless powder cartridges. Between 850,000 and 1,000,000 Model 1893 rifles were manufactured between 1893 and 1935.   • Condition: This rifle is in good condition with signs of wear commensurate with age and use. The barrel has approx. 50%-60% of the original blue finish that is thinning to a brown patina. The magazine tube does not retain its original finish and has signs of light pitting and spots of brown patina. The frame and lever do not appear to retain the casehardening colors with light pitting and a grey patina. The bore has strong rifling and the action is smooth. The forearm has two vertical notches on the right side and another two notches on the bottom. Please see the pictures for details and complete condition.
