Description:

Buck Rodgers in the 25th Century Colonel Traeger's Thunderfighter aka Happy Birthday Buck Starfighter 1:18 Scale. Designed by Ralph McQuarrie with parts cast from an original filming model created by Hartland in 1979. Then the model was modified , built, and painted by industry artist Dan Gurmeretz. Originally designed by famed artist Ralph McQuarrie to be the Colonial Viper for the TV Series Battlestar Galactica in 1978, this design was instead used for 1979’s Buck Rogers in the 25th Century as the HERO fighter for the Series. Colonel Cornel Traeger's Thunderfighter can be seen in season 1, episode 15... “Happy Birthday, Buck”. It is an older Thunderfighter that eventually became the Earth Directorite’s Starfighter. I am pleased to say that the model offered here was cast off an original Thunderfighter that was used in the Series, giving exact ties to the TV series. We eventually modified it, just like the artists did at Universal Hartland (the shop that built the original filming models for the series), and this is the world’s first accurate Colonel Traeger Thunderfighter replica, which again was from a direct cast of a used filming model in 1979. Traeger's Starfighter differs from Buck's Thunderfighter with it's top stabilizers standing in their menacing positions, and the bottom stabilizers actually lengthened to be much longer than the Thunderfighter we all know. Then there are the front side wings with the guns that are very close to those used (if not the same) on a Colonial Viper. There are other minor details here and there, and Industry Artist Dan Grumeretz did it complete justice, making this a very worthy piece. One difference from the original however,... Dan made Traeger as the pilot, copying what the actor wore in the episode. Even Traeger's visor is on him. Excellent work. This being a direct descendant of an original filming model makes it highly desired in the world of high end studio model collectors, and quite valuable. Keywords: Collectible; Ref: BD1831
