Description:

Vintage Arthur Long (Born 1950) Original Seascape Oil on Canvas. At a young age, Art became a practicing taxidermist in the family tradition started by his father, Neal Long. This skill enabled him to understand form and anatomy in-depth, and contributed to his later success as a painter of wildlife art. Along with operating a full time taxidermy shop, Art began painting seriously in the early 1970's. It wasn't long before his works were in such demand that Art decided to quit practicing taxidermy as a profession, and instead focus on his paintings and wood carvings. In 1975 the fledgling artist opened a gallery on the ground floor of his newly built home. With the help and support of his wife, Kathy, the dream of becoming a full-time artist was fulfilled. In the late 1980's the master artist and craftsman added bronze sculptures to his portfolio, producing eighteen exclusive pieces to date. Art has won numerous awards, accolades, and commissions over the years, a testament to the broad appeal of his style of artwork. Recent achievements include Northwoods Wildlife Center Artist of the Year (twice), Featured Sculptor for Safari Club International in 1992, chosen by the United States Tennis Association to design the official trophy for the Midwest division, and top awards (including two-time “Best of Animal Group”) at the prestigious International Woodcarver's Congress (considered amongst sculptors to be the finest woodcarving competition in the nation) held each year in Davenport, Iowa; to name a few.
