Antique Remington No. 1 Rolling Block Rifle .44-100 with Letter of Provenance. This “Long-Range Creedmoor” target rifle comes to you from the Jim Wilkinson’s Rifle Ranch Collection, Prescott, Arizona. The rifle features a blued 34” part round – part octagon barrel with a windage adjustable globe front sight having an extra fine beaded post insert and spirit level. The rear sight dovetail has been filled. The barrel is marked “E., REMINGTON & SONS, ILLION, N.Y.” The muzzle of the barrel has fine scroll engraving and two inlaid gold-wired “wedding bands”. The octagon portion of the barrel has fine scroll engraving coupled with three gold inlaid wedding bands. The receiver, rolling block, hammer, trigger guard and upper and lower tangs are color-case hardened and exhibit fine scroll engraving with gold inlaid borders and accents with shield pattern knurling on the hammer and block spurs. The upper tang sports a long-range Vernier peep-sight. The hand-checkered forearm comes with a Horn tip while the pistol-grip shoulder stock has a heel mount sight base and a double-diamond checkered hard rubber butt-plate.   • Provenance: Only a few hundred of these rifles are estimated to have been produced. Jim Wilkinson documents in accompanying letter that he purchased this rifle from famed collector Maurice C. Clark in 1963. Mr. Clark asserts that “This particular arm was Remington’s display piece at the International Exposition in 1876 and that it was from Philo Remington’s personal collection. Jim Wilkinson has included this type-written account of this rifles history as known by him which is signed and dated February 12th, 1987. This firearm is a true piece of Remington’s history.

  • Condition: This barrel retains nearly all of its’ blued finish which slightly appears plum with some very light streaking. The case colors are extremely vivid. The action is solid. The barrel bore rates as excellent with very strong rifling. The wood stocks are very good with a minimum amount of light blemishes and finish loss. All checkering is crisp. All serial numbers on the receiver, barrel and fore-end match.
