Description:

Antique Mediterranean or Ottoman Style Flintlock "DRAGON" Blunderbuss Pistol made circa the 1700s. The blunderbuss is a firearm with a short, large caliber barrel that’s flared at the muzzle. It would have been used with shot and other projectiles. The blunderbuss is commonly considered to be an early predecessor of the modern-day shotgun, with similar military and defensive use. It was effective only at short range, lacking accuracy at long range. A blunderbuss in handgun form was called a Dragon, and it’s from this, that the term “Dragoon” evolved. In many cases, the face of a dragon was engraved into the barrel near the muzzle. Thus, when fired, it appeared as if a fire-breathing dragon had entered the room! The flintlock blunderbuss was the original coach gun, being a short, handy and devastating weapon at close range. It was used in many capacities, not the least of which were for naval boarding or defending by pirates and navies alike! This antique piece of history sports a 10” iron barrel. The lock is also iron and believed that it is of Mediterranean Naval heritage. The pistol-length stock is made of some unknown wood and has a crescent shaped buttstock. Full-size trigger guard. Caliber/ Gauge: LEAD or IRON SHOT Serial Number: NA Working Order: Firearm has not been tested; Background Check: Not Required; Keywords: Firearms, Guns; Ref: BD1248

  • Dimensions: 10" Barrel
  • Circa: 1780's to 1830's
  • Condition: We are unable to determine the exact age of this pistol. However, it is very old. Amazingly, the lock and action are still working properly. The trigger guard has been replaced and the crescent-shaped butt-plate is missing. All of the metal hardware has a rippled effect or texture. The forearm portion of the stock is secured in place under the barrel by a pin. (old nail?) This is the type of firearm that you can develop your own (believable?) story about. Captain Hook would be proud!
